Down Home News Blues

Hello peoples coming to you direct.  So many topics to talk about but I’ll only stick to one for this blog.  First and foremost I would like to apologize for the long gaps between blogs.  So I’ve been paying attention to the mass media.  Well I’ve developed mixed emotions about the multiple segments of the news, as well as, the different entities.  There seems to be more violence on the news than in some movies and this is something that the kids are openly watching.  That’s just one observation, the second is the amount of content that is on the news, which I feel is very limited.  The third is why not a more positive medium oppose to all the negative imaging viewed.
I mentioned that there is more violence on the news than in some movies. Well just this past week, I paid close attention to what was being watch.  There is more hatred and deadly viewing between Fox, CNN and local news; in fact, I would even go as far as to believe it can influence integration among kids.  I’ll give you an example of violence on the news.  My witnessing of the executing of Sadam on the evening news is just one example.  I thought back to the time I wrote about media showing too much for an English class assignment.  It was already enough just to talk about the incident and with fast maturing kids learning things at an even more exponential rate than kid in the past.  The only thought going through my head was how people talk about music and movie as being the primary cause for violent youth but no one ever mentions the news in those talks.  On CNN, I was able to view the hanging of Sadam.  I thought about it and said, “Well Damn I’m sure somewhere there are kids that may think this is a normal part of life.”  In more recent events, I recently overheard kids talking about the high profile murder case.  Ultimately this would be a good thing in someone’s eyes, but at that age the only things on my mind were sports, video games, cartoons and comic books.  Not saying that it’s bad for kids to learn or know about current affairs, however I feel that type of news is desensitizing to the youth.  It’s bad enough that we’re emotionless to some of the things we view, but I don’t want my kids to be the same way.

So the headline is “Two Older Males hold up a Bank Uptown”.  After waiting through the hour long news to actually hear the story, you may only get a story that is five minutes long about the hold up.  You ended up learning no more than you already knew before.  Let’s think about this for a moment.  For example, if I were to get in to a fight explaining everything would at least take thirty minutes.  Intentional… Yes!  Coincidental… Yes!  Why?  Well it’s a simple theory.  The theory is giving you progressive information throughout the week to keep you coming back for more or at least to leave you thinking you’re getting more information.  The point that I want to make is there is no possible way to learn about the wars extensively and have a 100% comprehension after 10-15 minutes of hearing the story.  It just can’t happen.
Ok we get it America is going through some penny pinching time. We get it damn!  Is there any good news out there at all?  I took time to read about a natural treatment to depression.  The treatment was of no cost at all.  The primary treatment is laughter.  Something as simple as laughter can lessen the symptoms of depression.  So the question we should ask news stations is a phrase used by Batman’s worst enemy. Why So Serious?  I would like to propose for the depressing news, we should get one full day of just positive news.  I already know what some would say.  “You can hide the truth from people.” Well as I said before are you really getting the truth from a story in 30 minutes that took years to develop?  My point is that the news is not for everyday viewing.  You’ll find yourself in a swimming pool of negativity.  As the wise folks have told me no news is the best news. Until next time, think positive thoughts, peace, love and God bless.
